Connecting your Google account
YouSpot works from the things you already use — your mail, your calendar, and the people you talk to. Connecting a Google account is what lets it see them. This page explains what that connection allows, what YouSpot does with the data, what it keeps, and how to take the access back.
You connect and disconnect Google accounts on your Integrations page. You can connect more than one mailbox, and each is granted separately.
What the connection allows
When you connect, Google asks you to approve a specific set of permissions. YouSpot requests these:
- Read your Gmail messages — headers, subject lines, and message bodies — so YouSpot can answer your questions about your mail and build your contacts. Read-only: the permission YouSpot requests (gmail.readonly) cannot send, alter, or delete anything.
- Read the events on your calendars — title, time, attendees, agenda — and, only when you ask, edit one (say, move a meeting). No creating or deleting events.
That is the whole grant. YouSpot cannot send mail or change your mailbox in any way, and does not ask for access to Google Drive, your Google Contacts, or your Google account settings. Accounts connected before August 2026 may still hold the broader permissions they were granted then; disconnecting removes them.
Gmail
With a mailbox connected, you can ask YouSpot about your mail in chat — what you last sent someone, how often you two have talked, what a particular thread said — and have it search your mail, pull up a message, or list your labels. Each of those runs live against the Gmail API with your grant, at the moment you ask. YouSpot does not sync or keep a copy of your messages.
The one thing it does read in bulk is headers. GMail Import walks the From, To, Cc and Bcc lines of your mail to work out who you actually correspond with, and builds those people into your YouSpot people list. It records the address, the display name, how many messages you have exchanged, and when you last did — not the contents.
Incoming mail is mostly robots and bulk senders, so to tell a real person from a mailing list YouSpot looks the sender's address up against public professional profile data through a third-party lookup service. Only the address is sent; senders with no profile behind them never make it into your people list.
Answering a question about your mail means the relevant part of it is passed to the AI model that writes the answer. That is the whole of what happens to it.
Google Calendar
Calendar access rides on the same grant as Gmail, so connecting a mailbox also lets YouSpot read what is on your calendars and — when you ask it to — edit an event. Like your mail, events are read live and are not stored.
What YouSpot keeps
- The access and refresh tokens for each connected account, so the connection keeps working without asking you again.
- A few totals recorded at connect time: how many messages and threads the mailbox holds, and how many events are on the calendar.
- The people found in your mail headers — address, name, email domain, message count, and last contact date.
The messages and events themselves stay in Google. YouSpot reads them when you ask it something and does not retain them.
How your data is used
YouSpot's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Your Google data is used to power the YouSpot features you are using and nothing else. We don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't use it to train generalized AI or machine learning models. It's your data — we just want to make it useful to you.
Removing the integration
Go to your Integrations page, find the account, and click Disconnect. YouSpot deletes the stored tokens for that account and revokes the grant with Google, which ends all further access. You can also revoke it from the Google side at any time under your Google account permissions.
Disconnecting stops YouSpot from reading anything further, but the people already built into your people list stay there. Deleting your YouSpot account from your account settings revokes every connected Google account and removes those records too. You can also ask us to remove them from the support page.
